GCSE Business - The Den project

A good revision source or a project to start a GCSE course with, to introduce the main topics and engage learners. Learners begin with a business idea and develop through to 'pitch' stage where it is presented to peers. Peers determine whether the idea could be successful or not. Video links including 'Raggae Raggae sauce' helps develop discussion around entrepreneurship, skills and qualities. Students cover some of the main areas of the spec in an engaging and practical way over an 8 week period including finance and marketing. Could be reduced or extended upon, time dependent.

This game can be played in pairs or small groups. It should help develop knowledge and skills required for the exam in an engaging way. It can be used as a revision activity for any subject/topic relevant for your learners. All you need is some dice! Extension activities including exam questions, asking students to write a paragraph including as many terms as possible etc can be used to extend the activity.

GCSE Business - Ethics, International Trade, Morals

This image is of forced child labour in Uzbekistan to pick cotton and can be used to start an interesting topic discussion/debate around child labour and other ethical issues. It is designed to encourage less teacher talk and more student discussion. After discussing the surface image, deeper connotations should be discussed with the group – how do you think this child feels? Why don’t all children access the same right to education? The Government set harvest quotas on farmers to fulfill international supply demands and older children and civil workers are also forced to work in cotton farms during the harvest period. Are their any positive elements to this situation? Supporting family to be able to eat etc? What would happen to these children if they were not forced into work? What about businesses and consumers of cotton? Whole group activity – Stand on the left side of the room if you disagree with child labour, the right if you agree and in the middle if you are unsure. Use a questioning activity to find out the different opinions, then get the students to swap locations. Ask them to argue from an alternative perspective.

Level 3 Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance BTEC

Level 3 BTEC National in Business, Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance. Key term check/summary for each learning aim. I have used the spec to create a key term checklist where students can tick off as they revise/produce resources. I would get students to complete electronically so they can increase the size of the boxes as necessary when completing key terms, benefits, drawbacks etc.
